To Pansy: on World Giraffe Day

This World Giraffe Day, we proudly honor, Pansy, our female giraffe at Nguuni. She was born in 1990, a cross breed of Massai (Father) and Rothschild (Mother) and recognized by her brown tan spots of Masai and chestnut patches separated by a white line border of Rothschild.

She was translocated from the Giraffe Centre, Nairobi, to Haller Park, Mombasa. Later on, Pansy was again safely translocated to Nguuni where she made it her home.

Pansy gave birth to 6 babies and was known as the ringleader of the females.

Sadly, in April 2022, Pansy’s life came to an end at 32 years old living longer than an average giraffe in captivity of 28 years.

She leaves behind her babies, her family and fond memories with us.
